Enter My Contest - Name the New Kitty

I lost my senses today. I was sort of impulsive and even a little irrational. But I fell in love, what can I say? I adopted a new kitten from the county animal control shelter all because I follow their tweets. For some reason, this tweet from them caught my eye the other night:

Isn't Nemo absolutely darling? http://bit.ly/1mEWST

That's all they wrote and when I clicked on it, this little guy didn't just catch my eye, he stole my heart. So today, I dropped everything, drove to the next town over, applied to be a "cat adopter" and brought him home. He came with the name "Nemo" but I don't really like this name very much. And I've been thinking as hard as I can and nothing is coming to my mind (unusual, I know! Ha ha!)

So I'm having a contest to "Name the New Kitty." The prize will be a $20 gift certificate for either my Artfire or Etsy shop, but mind you, this ISN'T a drawing....I'll choose a name that I really like and give full credit where credit is due!! Just leave your ideas in the comments here--and then make sure I'll be able to reach you (or check back to see if you've won!) Fun! After all, if I can fall for him just based on a snap shot...maybe one of my creative blog readers can have a "flash" of inspiration looking at the same thing?

Hey, it's worth a shot because I'm just coming up blank....and don't think this is just a "girl contest" guys...surely you have a wife, sister, mother, boss, employee, etc. who might like a little something from one of my shops as a Christmas present? See what I mean? It's open to everyone and if more than one person comes up with the same name that I like--then the first one to post it will be declared the winner.

Some notes about his personality: He's very mellow. In fact, my vet pointed out he had the laid back style of the ragdoll cat. He can't meow at all--he opens his little mouth and nothing comes out--it's weird, I know, but the vet wasn't concerned about it. But my goodness, he purrs like a lawnmower. It's just amazing the 2 pounds of kitten can produce such a rumble! And as is typical of many male cats, he's very affectionate. Finally, I think he may grow up to be pretty big because his little feet are about the size of quarters!!

So this contest will stay open through Sunday 11/22/09 at midnight C.S.T., OR later if nothing turns up that "does it" for the new kitty's new name. Thanks so much for playing along--I'm such a happy lady this evening--you should see me, I'm grinning from ear to ear. The process of introducing him to Red and Mariah is now in progress.....

He's gorgeous, but I see a little rebel in his eyes...how about 'Billy the Kid'.

I love him, whatever you decide to call him.

Cheers

Oh! He is adorable. Thank you for giving him a forever home :)

I don't know...he looks like a 'Janos' to me!

He is just so cute. I can see how you instantly fell in love

I actually have three different thoughts for a name.

First I thought Willow (right after I saw the picture I looked over and noticed willoaks so I just shortened it and made it willow)

Then I thought reverse Nemo and make it Omen

And then when I said how could you not fall in love with him I thought of Amore

I always have to live with a cat for a few days before a name hits me, so unless you want me on the sofa, I'm gonna sit this one out. Hope all goes well with the other two kitties. Our Grace likes to be the only cat and NOTHING will convince her that it is fun to have a cat friend.

Oh! I forgot.....He is ADORABLE!! Give him a big smoochie for me. :)

I think he looks like a "Tiger Lily" sorry if that's not manly enough for a boy.

Glad to meet this nice personage, I like big cats! If he was my cat I would name him Lluna (Moon) and he would be a spoiled child for sure. Cheers!

When I was little we had a cat named Pinkle Purr, from a poem by: A.A. Milne

Pinkle Purr

by A. A. Milne

Tattoo was the mother of Pinkle Purr,
A little black nothing of feet and fur;
And by-and-by, when his eyes came through,
He saw his mother, the big Tattoo.
And all that he learned he learned from her.
"I'll ask my mother," says Pinkle Purr.

Tattoo was the mother of Pinkle Purr,
A rediculous kitten with silky fur.
And little black Pinkle grew and grew
Till he got as big as the big Tattoo.
And all that he did he did with her.
"Two friends together," says Pinkle Purr.

Tattoo was the mother of Pinkle Purr,
An adventurous cat in a coat of fur.
And whenever he thought of a thing to do,
He didn't much bother about Tattooo,
For he knows it's nothing to do with her,
So "See you later," says Pinkle Purr.

Tattoo is the mother of Pinkle Purr,
An enormous leopard with coal-black fur.
A little brown kitten that's nearly new
Is now playing games with its big Tattoo…
And Pink looks lazily down at her:
"Dear little Tat," says Pinkle Purr.

First of all he is adorable. The first thing that came to mind when I saw him was "domino" I guess because of the coloring? Don't know but that's what popped into my head.

He is soooooo cute! He kind of reminds me of a long-haired Harley! But I am going to go with "Neptune" because that was Harley's name for 6 months when he lived in the shelter.

I love naming animals. Here are some suggestions. These are just names I happen to like and will name my pets, should I ever get any more. (But we already have 6 pets, so I doubt we will any time in the near future!)

Scrooby
Socrates
Minsk
Teddy-Bee
Nefertiri
Mumfy

LOL. Have fun! A new kitten is so wonderful!

What beautiful eyes he has!

Here are my suggestions:
Fuffy
Blotchy
Ink-Blotch
Inky
Puff (Short for "CreamPuff")
Pepper (because he is "Salt & Peppar")
Carl
Smudge
Bow-tie
Beau
Twilight
Harry
Licorice
Snowy
Snowball
Night&Day
Starry
Cotton

Hope you like one of my names because I adore your stuff, but don't have the funds to buy anything from you until I get out of the red.

Hugz from
Anna

He looks like "Frizzy" to me and my son!

I had a black and white kitty as a kid, his name was Domino--I see that's already been suggested.

Salt N Pepper, maybe? Or just shorten it to Pepper?

Hey, I've got it...you said he really rumbles when he purrs, how about Rumble?

Unknown said...

I found a spelling mistake in my suggestion-list now: I wrote "Fuffy", but I meant "Fluffy". Let's let both be suggestions. "Fuffy" is also possible, but "Fluffy" says something about his pelt.

I like "Willy" or "Billy" ("Billy the Kid" has already been suggested.) If you can see my photo

It's easy to suggest something that someone else has already said. I have read through all of these comments. I see that Ruth suggests "Salt N Pepper" or "Pepper", which was already on my list. Sorry Ruth!

In any case, whatever you name him. He is adorable. I'm in love with him and I haven't even held him!

I think you should call him Finch. Or Atticus. From To Kill A Mockingbird.

He's adorable, no matter what you call him

Oh my, he is just adorable! I see how he stole your heart! I'm not good with names since I think the kitty's purrsonality is a huge part of it but I'll suggest Tucker. I have no idea why but it just came to mind. I like Cookie too but it may not be mancatly enough!

I like the name Sebastian:) He is adorable, with beautiful markings, and such gentle green eyes. I'm sure that he will be much loved by you!

He is lovely, congratulations on your new kitty! Sorry I missed the deadline for the name, hope you found a good one for him!

OMG - See what happens when I tune out for a few days?! You have a brand new kitty! What a little zinger he is, too. Absolutely adorable! Missed out on the naming contest but he looks like Zinger to me! Enjoy!!
