I Think the New Kitty has a New Name

The list of name suggestions for my new kitten was just amazing and I'm going to list all the ideas that came my way here first. Heck, maybe it will be a useful cheat sheet for someone in a similar predicament to mine. It really does demonstrate a wealth of ideas, different cultures, different takes on naming pets:

Patches
Billy the Kid
Janos
Willow
Omen
Amore
Andy (as in Raggedy Andy)
Tiger Lily
Little Casanova
Snuggles
Lluna (Moon)
Pinkle Purr (and a wonderful Poem from A. Milne) *
Domino *
Neptune
Scrooby
Socrates
Minsk
Teddy-Bee
Nefertiri
Mumry
Fluffy
Blotchy
Ink-Blotch
Inky
Puff (Short for "CreamPuff")
Pepper (because he is "Salt & Pepper")
Carl
Smudge
Bow-tie
Beau
Twilight
Harry
Licorice
Snowy
Snowball
Night&Day
Starry
Cotton
Bandit
River
Frizzy
Domino (a second time!)
Sand N Pepper (2nd time!)
Pepper
Rumble
Willy
Billy (2nd time!)
Finch
Atticus
Tucker
Cookie
Sebastian
Zinger
Rocker
Rocket

OK, so the name I pretty sure I'm giving to the cutie-pie isn't on this list...because I basically invented it when it just kind of popped out of my mouth (more on that in a minute.) But there were definitely two runner-ups here, for very different reasons, and I've decided to offer 1/2 of my prize (a gift certificate worth $10 good in either of my two shops) to each of these.

Domino was a very serious contender for a couple of days (Thank you Poetic Shutterbug!) I liked the image, I liked that it had 3 syllables, which seems to be a pet-name-theme here right now, and I have no idea why, it just happened! And then, it turned up a 2ND time, so there must be something about the name and the cat?

The 2ND runner up is Sheila Sultani because her suggested poem, by A. A. Milne, included a kitten's name of Pinkle Purr--which is a segway into (and a close contender in its own right) the name I invented for the little guy (plus, as luck would have it, it also has 3 syllables):

Purrmeister OR Purr Meister
That's right, he's the master or maestro of purr. I tested this out with my nieces and nephews over the holiday (ages 6, 8, 11 and 13) and it was a hit with them (I didn't expect that, to be honest!) And the kitten was a huge hit, too, as you can imagine whenever you put kids and baby animals together....

So, dear readers, I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for a goldmine of good ideas! And for the winners? Drop me a note if you wish to claim your prize at WillOaksStudio (at) aol.com and we'll work things out from there! I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving and you should know, I'm thankful for each and every one of YOU!! XXX

Doesn't Play Well With Others

An amazing list of names for the new kitty continues to grow, and I'm just thrilled for all this help and input on my naming challenge! I plan to make a concise list of all the names tomorrow, just for easy reading, and hopefully to chose a new name by Monday. All of your help and inspiration for this has been fabulous! Thank you so much...hey, I'm as excited to learn the new name and curious to know what it will be as you all are...ha ha ha!

Red Kitty and Mariah are not happy campers. They are hiding downstairs while the kitten stays right by my feet or on my lap upstairs. Right now, I'm not pushing it at all but will simply move a litter box downstairs to be on the safe side. As the Little Prince once said "Things Take Time."

Make sure you add a name (entry) to my contest by Sunday midnight (CST) 11/22/09 to name the new kitten. There's a real prize here for the winning entry!!

And what a lovely sunset last night! I love the skies this time of year, I mean, if it HAS to get dark so early, at least it's happening in a beautiful way!

Enter My Contest - Name the New Kitty

I lost my senses today. I was sort of impulsive and even a little irrational. But I fell in love, what can I say? I adopted a new kitten from the county animal control shelter all because I follow their tweets. For some reason, this tweet from them caught my eye the other night:

Isn't Nemo absolutely darling? http://bit.ly/1mEWST

That's all they wrote and when I clicked on it, this little guy didn't just catch my eye, he stole my heart. So today, I dropped everything, drove to the next town over, applied to be a "cat adopter" and brought him home. He came with the name "Nemo" but I don't really like this name very much. And I've been thinking as hard as I can and nothing is coming to my mind (unusual, I know! Ha ha!)

So I'm having a contest to "Name the New Kitty." The prize will be a $20 gift certificate for either my Artfire or Etsy shop, but mind you, this ISN'T a drawing....I'll choose a name that I really like and give full credit where credit is due!! Just leave your ideas in the comments here--and then make sure I'll be able to reach you (or check back to see if you've won!) Fun! After all, if I can fall for him just based on a snap shot...maybe one of my creative blog readers can have a "flash" of inspiration looking at the same thing?

Hey, it's worth a shot because I'm just coming up blank....and don't think this is just a "girl contest" guys...surely you have a wife, sister, mother, boss, employee, etc. who might like a little something from one of my shops as a Christmas present? See what I mean? It's open to everyone and if more than one person comes up with the same name that I like--then the first one to post it will be declared the winner.

Some notes about his personality: He's very mellow. In fact, my vet pointed out he had the laid back style of the ragdoll cat. He can't meow at all--he opens his little mouth and nothing comes out--it's weird, I know, but the vet wasn't concerned about it. But my goodness, he purrs like a lawnmower. It's just amazing the 2 pounds of kitten can produce such a rumble! And as is typical of many male cats, he's very affectionate. Finally, I think he may grow up to be pretty big because his little feet are about the size of quarters!!

So this contest will stay open through Sunday 11/22/09 at midnight C.S.T., OR later if nothing turns up that "does it" for the new kitty's new name. Thanks so much for playing along--I'm such a happy lady this evening--you should see me, I'm grinning from ear to ear. The process of introducing him to Red and Mariah is now in progress.....
