Experiments from WillOaks Studio

Every so often, I just have to see "what would happen if I .....?" and these two pieces are examples of this. My challenge was two fold: come up with a way to incorporate these amazing kyanite faceted free-form nuggets into a neck piece, and see if I could come up with a fresh look for "the pendant" form.

The top one is the newer, simpler experiment. I (also) decided to see what would happen if I figured out a way to put the closure for the necklace in the front and ended up designing a way to meld the pendant and the hook and eye. The "chain" is braided linen that incorporates sterling and lapis lazuli. It was done about the same time as the glass pendants with linen chains I showed here last week.

The bottom one came together about a year ago. Similar challenge but different approach and results. About a year ago, I was working a lot with very asymmetrical forms and this is another example of this approach. Neither one of these is in either of my shops as I'm not sure what I think of them...so comment away because I seem to be in need of a critique here and all opinions-good, bad and ugly, are welcome!! Suggestions for improvements or changes are always interesting, too.

Thanks, folks!! Have a great Tuesday...

These are beautiful. They would look great dressed up or w/ jeans.

Experiments sometimes are absolutely awesome - as these are. VERY pretty!

They are very nice. Not my taste so my comments are irrelevant. The necklace part of the second is interesting.

A closure in the front, what a great idea. I'm not much into necklaces BUT I really do like the first one. And on both the color for me was very eye catching.

I really like both designs! I think that you should go ahead and list them. :)
