So Deadly, So Beautiful (Part 1)

The recent ice storm caused no end of problems from broken limbs (trees and people) to downed wires to treacherous travel. But when everything was encased in clear, glistening ice, it was a beautiful sight to behold. In fact, I captured so many interesting images, I'm splitting this into two separate postings.

All of Christmas Eve, huge sheets of ice slid off the roof of the house, crashing to the ground, deck and other parts of the roof with lots of noise. The wind howled and some mix of rain and sleet pelted the windows. It was fearsome weather outdoors and I was grateful to be indoors, snug and warm and WITH power...so far....

But I was dreading all the travel I would be doing on Christmas Day. (To be continued....)

P.S. The really strange weather persisted through Christmas day, but I've done my travels and made is safely home!! Black ice on the tollroads going west out of Chicago tonight as temps dropped back down to the low 20's and I watched an accident with a sedan losing control just a little ways behind me. The car did a donut, and crashed headfirst into concrete on the side of the road. I could hear sounds--then saw the end of the accident in my rear view mirror. That truly was heart-stopping but the accident didn't seem too serious, except for the car....

As much as I hate ice storms it does make for some beautiful sights when it is done. We were expecting freezing rain yesterday but it never got quite cold enough so we just had a very wet day.
glad you made it home safe and sound

Deadly but beautiful is right. I'm so glad you made it home safely. Once you are in and safely snug, you can appreciate the beauty such as the lovely photos you have. I hope you had a lovely Christmas in spite of the ice. Stay warm and safe and enjoy the peace. All our best to you, Karen.

Glad to hear that you are home safe again then with all of your travels. But you are right, I freezing rain it's gorgeous! It's like it encases everything in a sheath of silence.

Gorgeous photos - ice is the worst - nothing you can do about - snow you can drive through - ice is not nice!

It was lovely though, with all of the ice covering the world. I went out and took a ton of photos as well.
