Bugs and Blossoms - Welcome Autumn

The last flowers of the season are now in bloom. Wonderful final bright patches against the greens and browns as many plants begin to die or go dormant. The insect action is pretty intense, too. These bright green beetles are just everywhere, a few late Japanese beetles linger on, and most exciting to me was the discovery of a few honey bees! It seems our area has also suffered from overall bee hive collapse as where I used to see regular and frequent bee activity, this summer there has been little to none.

Yet there, perched on some late blooming allium (garlic chives) a couple of honey bees were gathering nectar!! I was really excited but had to do my best with the telephoto mode because since the weather has gotten quite warm again, they were moving about very actively. I wish these images were a little better quality, but wacky as it may sound, since I'm a gardener, finding a few bees that are not the big, furry bumble bees was actually one highlight of my day!

My little sister and her husband have moved into my camper in the campground now. The floor is finished (down to the wire, anyone?) and beautiful (together with all the other preparations for guests) and I can take some new photos tomorrow.

Beautiful colors of autumn! We're lucky here with many bees throughout summer..

Your photographs are beautiful. We have good weather though October and continue boating through that month. I'm not a California fan, but the weather sure helps with our boating.

Have a terrific fall. :)
