Last Night Blooming Cereus

Photo collage: Claire Stahlecker and Night blooming Cereus

Such a rare treat! My night blooming Cereus decided to bloom one more time this summer and this time, I took photos and video during several moments over the 24 hour period.

I've 'collaged' photos and video together here, and added a sound track by my niece, Claire Stahlecker, who is definitely an up and coming musician with quite an original sound. Somehow, melding the two together just seemed (intuitively) like the right thing to do, like a joyous celebration of this amazing plant with the one night only blossom.

At the risk of sounding maudlin, when I saw this bud developing, I was a bit concerned that this poor old plant could be putting out it's 'last bloom before death' because it already bloomed a couple of times this summer...I hope I'm wrong, but just in case, this lovely gift of a plant is now well and lovingly documented.

What a learning experience....and it's now on Youtube, too...my first addition ever--hey, gotta' start somewhere! And Claire's Facebook Fans page is a good place to learn more about the music!

I enjoyed this video you made very much! It is very aesthetic, and Claire's wonderful voice as soundtrack is a beautiful combination. Very well done.

She is a really good singer. I liked the part of your video where the flowers pedals were moving in the breeze.

That was beautiful, both the flower and the music. Your niece is a very talented lady:) Glad you got to see the bloom one last time and that you were able to document it too!

I am very impressed! Your niece is very talented and has a lovely voice.

Is she planning on becoming a professional singer/composer?

Your plant is wonderful too. I do so hope it won't die on you.

Congrats on going live on YouTube. My daughter has a video or two that she has put together of her cats and uploaded to youtube.

I was here of course when she did it. She showed me every move even writing down the instructions.

But as of yet I have not had any success. I did get one video put together but never could get it uploaded.

I will go up right now and become a fan.

Oh no R&R for me this week. I did a 360% turn.

I hope you get a chance to drop over.

Happy MM!

Nicely done.
I love your photo captures of the bud coming to life.
The growth of the flower and the lyrics are very compatible.

Cheers on both talented people being yourself and your niece :)

Hi Karen,
I just found your email and also one from your niece.

It was an invitation to become friends. We are now friends.

Of course I really need to promise all of you that I won;t sing and put up a video.

I apologize for being so late but I am nursing a sore throat and trying very hard not to come down with a cold.

Take care and I hope to be back up and at 100% in the morning!!
Jackie:)
