More Summer Sky Color

I love the sunset palette so much, I captured a new sunset, then chose and organized a new collection of images to finish this theme-- WillOaks Studio: Sunset Colors. Three of today's blossoms are day lilies-not to be confused with true lilies- but lovely in their own right (above.) There are just zillions of the brilliant orange variety, often referred to as 'ditch lilies', around our county, as this is the wild cousin to the more exotic varieties which are hybridized and cultivated.

'Yarrow' (Achillea millefolium) shown here in both soft yellow and a ruby pink that are also cultivated varieties of a wild type which is usually white. And Monarda or 'Bee balm', in its' wild mode, is a soft violet color--I've seen a cultivated variety in rich red that I'd love to have.

Liatris, also referred to as 'Gay Feather,' featured prominently in my first sunset collection and is shown here against the soft lavender shades of "Russian Sage" or Perovskia. Both are hardy, common perennials. Cleome or 'Spider Flower' is an annual that tends to self seed in spots around here. And the last wild flowers, growing at the edge of the pond, are a mystery to me! This is the second year I've noticed them right near the water's edge...does anyone recognize this airy little bloom?

Oooh, the sky and lily colors are gorgeous! Excellent captures! And your second to last photo there...I took a photo of one of those last year, but don't know what it is. It's beautiful, though.

Hey thanks to all of you for such nice comments! Holly, the purple bloom you noted is sometimes called a "spider flower" but I know it as 'cleome'....It's been such a great summer for flowers here!
