Let the Lilies Begin

I used to be sort of obsessed by lilies and a small collection remains here at WillOaks Farm. A couple of my favorites are now in bloom--a Species lily in an eye popping red, and a Longifolium Asiatic (L.A.) that I carried with me from Iowa.

Lilies can be easy if they are happily planted...they can be heart breaking if things go wrong. I've had it go both ways. Something I look forward to, in late July, is an Oriental grouping that features the most fragrant white flowers and is called "Casa Blanca." One of these plants is currently over 5 1/2 feet tall, a size which I find extraordinary. It might be amazing to see what kind of flower display such a huge specimen can offer.

But I hesitate to get too far ahead because after the 80 m.p.h. winds and torrential rains that crashed through last Friday, one never knows what natural events might happen here next!

Thanks for your comments on my photos!! I agree, the light yesterday evening as dusk really enhanced the red colors out in the garden AND that species lily is truly just amazing! Stay tuned for more lilies and other flowers...they are coming along fast and furious! Karen

Absolutely gorgeous! The deer keep mowing down my lilies long before they get a chance to set blooms.
