Grandeur and the Mundane

I've been on a small break from really intense studio work the past couple of days. I really needed a break and could no longer postpone some gardening for the season as the solstice is barely 2 plus weeks away. In due time, I hope I have some images of the vegetable patch we've been working on here (it's just kind of earthy at the moment as in seeds in the ground and not too much to see yet.)

This evening, I figured I had finally scavenged enough plant material to get some planters put together and while I was mixing soil, patting pots, poking in plugs and generally pottering around here (with the watchful cats in audience) I happened to turn around.

There was a amazing, really painterly cloud display with spectacular back lighting just begging for a photo or 12....I managed to winnow it down to 4 images. It was a breathtaking sight and somehow, put a new perspective on everything for the moment. And here, waxing philosophic fails me....so I hope you can enjoy the photos (cropped in wide screen format) while you have a lovely weekend!! Thanks for dropping by!

What a gorgeous sunset. Glad you turned around and took a few shots for us. I don't get to see sunsets like that.

Beautiful photos.

Thank you for your kind words on my T-post.

I chose just that poem by Harry Martinson with you in mind. As I guessed, no one else has commented on what it was about. They don't seem to understand. But I knew that you would, having lived as far north as Alaska!

I've gardened for many years but I didn't get the reference to the solstice, so I googled it, and now understand how increasing or decreasing day length affects plant behavior. Thanks! I just love your blog.

The sky pictures are very beautiful. The sky may be the best subject for photography. And I really like orange cats.

I love when a lovely sky sneaks up on you like that. :) Add in the flowers and a red cat and life is good!

Those are gorgeous photos. Well done capturing those sunsets. I have a question. What is on the cat's collar?? Is that like you put on a dog so he won't go out of the yard.
Give Purrmeister a treat for us.
Have a great week.

I had the same question as Marg. I need to get one of those, or four, for my kids. Your sunset and sunrise shots are always wonderful.
