Experiments

I'm in the final countdown for closing the campground here. We're still quite busy and have two big weekends as our "finale" yet. But I've been stealing a little time, here and there, to try to keep pushing some new pieces along.

Not a lot has been photographed from the past month or so of work, but this experiment did get in front of the camera a few days ago. The bracelet and earrings feature a very interesting stone I discovered called a "wax opal." Very warm, somewhat translucent, interesting variegation and striations, quite earthy. I'm not really sure what I think yet and so no, it hasn't been listed in either of my shops yet.

I'd be happy to hear any opinions...don't worry, you can't hurt my feelings if you don't care for it! Just say what you think!

And a note about my "Wordless Wednesday" photo, because I like to stick to the idea that an image can be presented without explanation...but then sometimes, it's good to fill in the blanks, like in this instance.

That wall could be classic midwestern--"Everything for the Barn," in an old style, side of the brick wall, sign painting. What's interesting is this is currently a rather neglected corner of this huge building which is being turned from an abandoned factory into a thriving art space, including a gallery and lots of individual studio spaces (not for living unfortunately--at least not yet!) It's possibly half occupied at this point and needs a ton of renovation work yet. It's located in the next town north of Woodstock--an old dairy town called Harvard. I was surprised to find such a thing in our county some years after I returned here to the farm, and better yet, that there's a growing arts community sprouting in this area!

Nice bracelet and earrings! As a matter of fact, I was just thinking yesterday about making a beaded bracelet with roundish chips and small nuggets, and I saw in my minds eye, how I would put tiny seed beads between them as spacers in a darker colour. And there you have it! You've already done it!

But my imagined braclet is in another colour. But your soft yellow-beige "wax opal" is a good fall colour. An earthy colour, but still light.

Is the round coin-like plate your tag? Do you have it stamped with your signum? Nice! I have little acrylic tags.
Where on earth did you find "wax opal"? I'm no expert, but it's a new name for me.
Yes, I like this bracelet. But are the earrings heavy to wear? Aren't these stones? They look nice.

If I get my bracelet that I have been doing in my head done in reality, I'll post it and you will see what I mean.

Best wishes
Christina Wigren (Anna)
P.S.
Glad that you are feeling better now.

Oh, it's lovely. It looks "heavy" though--like they are rocks. Is it heavy?

I think it looks much "weightier" than it is. The nugget in the bracelet is only about 1 1/8" long and the earrings stone is only 7/8" long. I think the light color makes them appear larger plus this stone is not as dense as some minerals tend to be. Not as light as amber, but not as heavy as, say, quartz. The image was shot in macro mode so is somewhat enlarged....A wax opal is a "common opal, one lacking the inner play of color" with a waxy luster finish.

I did your write up today and linked to your site and your gallery.

I hope you like the post. I tried my best to get a good shot. We had rain and clouds all day again.

I had to use two lights and a mirror to get even a respectable amount of light for the shot!

Get better soon!!

Your jewelry is beautiful. I love what I ordered!!

That stone is very pretty and interesting colors. I have to say that I like when jewelry designers make a bold bracelet such as this one and then keep the matching earrings a little bit more simple. I would love to see it modeled (I keep saying that to people). I just did a custom order for something bold like this. It's perfect for fall/winter when you probably don't wear as many necklaces due to the necklines of our clothing. I can't say anything bad about it!

I really like the stones and I especially like the earrings I could see wearing those. I'm not big on bracelets though, I very rarely wear them.

Everything you create is artistic and beautiful. It is a cornucopia of treasures.

You thoughts about the barn and the growing arts community were so interesting. This sounds like the perfect niche for you!

I’m glad I read this. I rarely reply to peoples comments…not because I don’t like them…but because I thought it was self-serving.
Thank you
