Avian Cacaphony

It happens twice a year--the great blackbird migration through WillOaks Farm. The sounds are amazing--loud, raucous, relentless--as hundreds of blackbirds flock together on trees, lawn, and pastures, gathering strength individually, gathering in numbers, to move south. I awoke to it this morning, a gray, wet, gloomy dawn, and gradually, their large sound penetrated my sleepy head and I grabbed the camera, shooting through the wet window, afraid I'd miss the opportunity.

But they lingered for awhile. First in one group of trees, then moving to another. Moving to the ground in search of food, then back into the trees. It never fails to amaze me how this huge congregation can synchronize its movements...it seems uncanny.

Mariah, my black kitty, couldn't get enough of the spectacle and like me, went from window to window as the flock moved all around the house, just marveling in the view.

Later in the day, I selected a group of stones that summed up the day for me...a feeling of gray settled over the colors of autumn. Simply lovely on their own and simply connected together with handmade sterling links.

I'm sure those birds are too noisy but the photos are just amazing. Have a nice weekend!

That is simply magical. Those are pictures I dream about getting. I remember getting a picture with seven robins in a tree one time and being so excited. I don't know what would happen if I found this.

That's a lot birds. I saw a similar site yesterday while I was driving. It was a huge flog of birds circling the trees. My first thought was "I wish I had my camera"
Love the stones in that bracelet.

Wow, that's a lot of black birds. Yikes. Kind of reminds me of the Hitchcock Birds movie. Just saying. That's probably what kitty is thinking too.

Have a terrific day and weekend. :)

That is so awesome. I'm one of those folks who love blackbirds, crows, ravens. Don't really have any in the city, I do miss them - and so do the kitties LOL

Wow, what great moody pics with the raindrops on the glass! I am really amazed at how the stones capture the feeling of the gray skies and blackbirds, that's great. Mariah is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing that spectacular migrational sight! I can see Tippy Hedron in my mind...

Reminds me of the movie - the Birds. Great shots and I would love to see that in person. I'm a bird lover so the sights and sounds would definitely be a treat for me.

I agree w/ Poetic Shutterbug...definitely 'The Birds', the movie inspired, but I LOVE Mariah going from window to window...their prowess really pops when there are birds...but ALL THESE BIRDS..I'll bet she's still enjoying the moment...have a good weekend, be warm...:)))

I'll bet they are LOUD too! We have flocks of starlings in the spring that are just so ridiculous in their volume. And like you, I'm amazed how they synchronize their flight path, take-offs and landings together. Perhaps there is a secret word....
