Yuri-A Very Special Parrot

I'm taking a day's break from the garden because for some reason, I can't upload photos to Google blogspot this evening. That's OK, I keep a few spare unfinished posts in the queue and this is such a sweet one!

Yuri lives next door to me at the campground. She's an older bird who has been treated like the child of my friends Dutch and Dee Freeman, who spend the summers here at the WillOaks Campground. I don't know her early history, but I do know for many years, she has lived in Florida in the Winter and here in the Summer.

Now I really love birds but haven't ever kept them as pets. They do seem a bit messy and I don't know much about their care or needs...but Yuri is a household member here at the Freemans.

And this pretty bird can really TALK! She's got quite a vocabulary AND does a really mean impression of...a cell phone ringing! I take care not to get too close because if the spirit moves her...she bites! Oh man, that can hurt. But she just loves Dutch and it's really fun to watch her clown around from his shoulder.

And the final endearing quality? A wolf whistle that will really get your attention!

Yuri is such an awesome bird. I never see this kind before, love the red streak on the feathers.

She is so cute. I love birds as well. We always had canaries when growing up and I miss them now.

I always wanted a parrot. I'm just afraid now about what it might pick up from our conversations and repeat at an inopportune time!

African Greys are such great birds. Our chiropractors have one that they bring to the office with them. Molly learned how to mimic the sound of the phone ringing and would howl with laughter when they would pick up the phone when it wasn't ringing. Then she learned how to mimic the sound of water dripping, like the water sculpture they had on the wall. It was like a form of water torture some days when she would sit there and drip, drip, drip.

Yuri sounds like a great bird. And she is a beauty! Thank you for the post.
